HISTORY-OF-GEOG is the unmoderated discussion list for scholars in the
humanities and social sciences who are interested in the history of geography.
Although HISTORY-OF-GEOG is the official discussion list of the History
of Geography Specialty Group (HoG) of the Association of American Geographers,
membership in the specialty group is not required for becoming
a member of the HISTORY-OF-GEOG list and contributing to our discussions.
The HISTORY-OF-GEOG list is being served by the Computing Center at the
University of Kentucky.
Subscribing to HISTORY-OF-GEOG
If you need to resubscribe in the future, or a colleague would like to subscribe to HISTORY-OF-GEOG, please send a message to the following address:
In the body of the message, state simply:
SUB HISTORY-OF-GEOG
You may be sent a message asking you to reply with "OK" as text. This is the way that the listserve insures that your address does indeed work, and cuts down on future errors. After this, you are a member of the list and reply to discussion messages.
NOTE: Be
aware that the list is set up so that "replies" are forwarded to everyone
on the list. If the message is only intended for one person,
then please be so kind as to insure that this is address you use.
Everyone makes this mistake occasionally, but if done repeatedly, it can
become annoying for other list members.
To find out more about managing your subscription to the HISTORY-OF-GEOG
list, please visit the following site:

If your question is simple, like "how do I send mail to the list", "how
do I unsubscribe", "how do I stop mail while I am out of town", "how do
I set the list so that it groups the messages into a digest" and so forth,
you will want to visit the following page:
http://www.uky.edu/ComputingCenter/Listserv/listserv_faq.html
If you don't have access to the web, then you can contact
me and I will send you the information.
I will request that, in the beginning at least, that those posting to the list include a short introduction about themselves. I will also ask new subscribers to take the time to introduce themselves. This message might include the personal or professional background that has lead you to take a active interest in the history of geography and geographical thought, the nature of your research on the history of geography, and the research questions or problems you are currently addressing or would like to address in your work.
This introduction may include questions for the list members, and it
will also aid those of us who are relatively new to this area of inquiry
to get to know where others are coming from, and what variety of approaches
they adopt.
As listowner, I reserve the right to de subscribe people who do not follow generally accepted standards of "netiquette." Any questions about the list structure or mechanics can be directed to the listowner: mldorn00@pop.uky.edu
