Awardees honored; donors participate at annual Recognition Reception
The Department of Geography annual spring Recognition Reception was held Friday, April 27, 2012 at The Nittany Lion Inn. Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors attended. "What a great turnout!" remarked Department Head Karl Zimmerer. "I'm especially pleased by the large number of undergraduate students wh
o could attend this year."
The purpose of the event is to recognize the achievements of members of the geography community. Awards were recognized for undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff at the department, college, university and external level. Undergraduate Program Officer Lorraine Dowler and Graduate Progra m Officer Brent Yarnal presented most of awards, except for a few. Before and after to the formal program, participants had the opportunity to socialize, enjoy refreshments, and review the research posters of master's degree students.
As award recipients were recognized, the event was made more special by the attendance and participation of some of our key donors. Fred and Marianne Gockley and Gwen McCauley attended to present the Jeff Gockley Memorial Award. Bruce Balmat presented the awards for the Balmat Family Scholarship in Geography and the Balmat Family Fund in Geography for Honors Scholars. All award recipients can be seen in the PDF of the program.
