Coffee Hour poster instructions

Your poster is due by noon on Friday the week before the talk.

Include the following on your poster:

  • Title of the talk
  • Name of the speaker
  • Title and affiliation of the speaker
  • "Department of Geography Coffee Hour"
  • Date (in this format): Friday, October 20, 2017
  • Time (in this format): 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
  • Location: 112 Walker Building or online via Mediasite Live
  • Refreshments offered at 3:30 p.m. in 319 Walker Building

Design

  • Use the template,
  • Preferred fonts: Avenir and Serifa
  • You may incorporate the four-fields ribbon (jpg)
  • Be creative and follow basic good design principles: balance, proximity, alignment, repetition, contrast, and space.
  • Think about the environment in which your poster will be viewed and how to make it stand out from the visual clutter
  • Follow the department's identification system guidelines (.pdf)
  • Adhere to University style and policies: http://visualeditorialstandards.psu.edu/ 
  • NOTE: For the Miller Lecture, we have a specific template for the poster

Layout specifications

  • Size: 8.5 by 11 inches
  • Orientation: portrait or landscape
  • Border: 1/2 inch border for in-house printing
  • Resolution: 300 dpi for photos and graphics

Requirements

  • Your first draft is due by noon on Friday the week before the talk. For example, for the September 15 Coffee Hour, your poster is due by noon on September 8.
  • For the Miller lecture, the draft is due two weeks before, because it is sent out for printing.
  • If there are any corrections, I will let you know. If you have sent me a PDF or JPG, you will be responsible for making any needed corrections. If you have sent a file I can open, I will take care of minor corrections, but any necessary and significant rework is your responsibility.
  • When approved and printed, I will email you the final PDF, and let you know that you can pick up the posters in the marketing communication specialists's office (313 Walker Building). If I am not there, the posters will be in the bin on the door.

Distribution

Distribution should be completed by noon on Monday of the week of the talk. For example, for the September 15 Coffee Hour, distribution should be completed by noon on September 11.

 

Post print copies

You will receive 20 copies of the final poster. Post it on bulletin boards and in high-traffic areas near elevators or where people have to wait in line.

  • 10 posters in Walker Building
  • 2 posters in each of the following buildings: Deike, Hosler, Steidle
  • Remainder in other locations you frequent: Starbucks, HUB, Kern Building, etc.
