Introducing John Murphy

John Murphy is joining the Department of Geography as the new Public Relations Coordinator/Writer/Editor, picking up where Jennifer Driver left off. He returns to the department after receiving his undergraduate degree (B.S. Geography - Urban and Regional Development) in the Spring of 2005.

After graduating, John returned to his hometown of Christiana, Pennsylvania (in the thick of Lancaster County). While there he worked as a contractor with IBM in the Strategic Outsourcing division.

While studying as an undergraduate at Penn State, John had an opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Leiden, The Netherlands. During this time he was fortunate to travel around much of Europe and develop his intense interest for traveling. He also worked as an intern with the Delaware County Planning Department and served as an academic tutor with the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student Athletes. He was active with the Underdogs (Undergraduates in the Department of Geography).

John hopes to continue producing an excellent newsletter while keeping the website constantly updated in an effort to further bridge the gap between students, faculty, and alumni. He hopes to spread the word of Penn State Geography, especially to prospective students, via the website and other outreach activities.

In his spare time, which may be decreasing, John enjoys film, music, cycling, and quality crafted beer (he just started homebrewing), among other random musings.
