Spring 2008 Lecture Series: Reframing Critical Public Policy Debates

The Social Science Research Institute, the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, and a partnership among the departments of Political Science, Women's Studies and Geography, the Rock Ethics Institute, and Center for Policy Research on Energy, Environment, and Community Well-Being, present a seminar series beginning this spring and occurring again in the fall that will take an interdisciplinary look at "Reframing Public Debates: Critical Issues of Our Time and Policy Options to Address Them."

March 18: Randy Albelda, professor of economics and senior research fellow at the Center for Social Policy at University of Massachusetts Boston, "Bridging the Gaps: Reframing Poverty Policy and Research," 7 to 9 p.m., 22 Deike Building ;
March 25: Frank Baumgartner, Miller-LaVigne professor of political science, "The Decline of the Death Penalty and the Discovery of Innocence," 7 to 9 p.m., 26 Hosler Building;
April 8: Dr. David Riley, Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering, Executive Director of the Penn State Center for Sustainability, Lead faculty for the Penn State 2007 Solar Decathlon Team "Here Comes the Sun: The Business Case for Solar Energy Reframing the Energy Policy Debate in PA and Beyond" 7 to 9 p.m., 22 Deike Building."
The lecture series is one strategy, among others, to identify and build a critical mass of scholars at Penn State who do policy-relevant, policy-related and policy-directed research, and to bring in scholars who will stimulate and possibly collaborate with groups of faculty in identified areas of policy strength.
