Truckee Project

Affecting Risk: Improving Hazard Communication in the Wildland-Urban Interface

Participants Needed for Dissertation Research Project

Destiny Aman, a PhD student in the Geography Department at Penn State, is working on dissertation project exploring resident perceptions and opinions of landscape, forestry and fire management practices in Truckee, CA. She is currently interviewing community managers and local residents to learn more about people's views and experiences with these practices, and with living in Truckee in general. She is looking for a wide range of views and experiences, and the only criteria is that participants be 18 or older and own a home in Truckee - they can be part or full-time residents, new to the area, or longtime residents.

Interviews take place in resident homes, and last 60-90 minutes. With permission, the interview is recorded by digital audio recorder, but all personally identifiable information is kept confidential.

There is no compensation for participation in the project, but interviewees will be helping shed some light on how residents in their community perceive forest and fire management practices, as well as what experiences and opinions inform resident behaviors.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Destiny at or (814) 321-3999.
