Broad Goals

  • Create a curriculum that provides students with the opportunity to apply geographic skills, knowledge, and perspectives to life situations
  • Provide a broad and well-grounded geographic education to majors
  • Promote geographic literacy among non-majors
  • Prepare students for careers and productive citizenship through lifelong learning


Specific Objectives

  • Teach students to understand and analyze relationships among people, places, and environments
  • Teach students to use geospatial representations, tools and technologies to acquire, process, and analyze data about our world
  • Teach students to understand and analyze the physical processes that shape patterns and ecosystems of Earth’s surface
  • Teach students to understand and analyze how human activities shape and modify the physical environment of Earth’s surface
  • Teach students to understand and analyze the two-way interactions between humans and their environments and resources
  • Teach students how use geographic perspectives to understand the past, interpret the present, and plan for the future
