Good day, my name is Kevin Harris. I am a first-year graduate student enrolled in the 5-yr Masters to Ph.D. program. I am interested in studying content within the intersection of our society, the environment, and the economy. I am excited to learn more about urban development, political ecology, and transdisciplinary approaches to research questions. While I do not have my research nailed down yet, I know I would like to utilize a mixed-methods approach.
Before becoming a graduate student, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geography and a minor in Sustainability Leadership from the Penn State. During this time, I served on the College of Earth and Mineral Science Sustainability Council Operations Subcommittee and as the Geographic Information Systems Coalition vice president. Preceding my undergraduate education, I received an Honorable Medical Discharge from the United States Army. During my service as a Cavalry Scout, I worked as part of a team that trained combat units throughout the year.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring both Rothrock and Bald Eagle State Forest, fishing, kayaking, and generally being outside and active. On rainy days – which I love – I can often be found watching sports and playing video games. My girlfriend and I have a slew of animals: a rabbit, cats, Guinea pigs, and a few fish; To say I’m an animal person is putting it lightly.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a bit; I look forward to chatting with you in the halls, in meetings, and in general. Thank you for taking the time to read about me.
