Welcome to the Department of Geography at Penn State! We are a vibrant and diverse community of faculty members, researchers, undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and alumni. We aim to inspire the highest levels of geographic teaching, learning, and mentoring while engaging in the scholarly pursuit of geographic knowledge, and to apply this knowledge toward understanding the ever-changing interplay of human societies and physical environments. We offer a diverse range of programs tailored to meet the unique goals of each individual.
Our Educational Programs
We have both resident and online undergraduate, graduate and professional students pursuing degrees and certificates ranging from GIS to spatial data to geospatial intelligence analytics and more. We offer undergraduate B.A. and B.S. degrees, 6 undergraduate minors, and 8 undergraduate certificates. We also offer master's and doctoral degree programs plus 3 online master's programs and 4 online graduate certificate programs. Our graduates work in industry and businesses, for nonprofits, for universities, and in public service at the local, state and national levels.

Our focus is the geographies of global change. We have a broad view of causes and consequences of global change, including sustainability, livelihoods, health, geopolitics, systems of production and consumption, water resources, ecosystems, and climate dynamics.
