Micah Ortiz

I am an Indigenous geographer who is interested in economic development on Indigenous reservations across the United States. I rely on ethnographic methods and memory studies to investigate how Indigenous casinos shape economic development and cultural identity on rural reservations.

Prior to attending PSU, I worked in construction services and social science education. I earned my M.S. in geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and my B.S. in social science education from Black Hills State University. I grew up in Pahá Sápa (Black Hills, South Dakota), and I am a descendant of the Crow Creek Sioux nation.
